PHILIPSBURG – Due to the onset of summer, the Philipsburg-based State Police announced a crime prevention initiative, targeting those who “specialize” in paving, driveway sealing and roofing scams.
In a press release, Cpl. Joseph G. Cigich, of the Philipsburg barracks, advised the public of individuals who are from out of the area and or state. He said they may approach residents for work at a discounted rate.
“Usually, the work provided is substandard,” he said. In many cases, he said these individuals will request additional payment during or at the completion of the work.
Cigich said elderly Pennsylvanians are typically the target of these types of scams. He said anyone who has been a victim or witnessed such activity is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency.
