HOUTZDALE – An inmate will be charged with aggravated assault after allegedly assaulting a food service supervisor at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale.
According to the state police in Clearfield the incident occurred on May 27 at 3:45 p.m. A 27-year-old inmate was standing in the dining area in an area that is prohibited from inmates. The food service worker directed the man to move out of the restricted area several times. The worker approached the inmate one final time and directed him to move out of the area, which is near a window that faces to a hallway used be the female staff.
Police say that the inmate turned and struck the worker on the left side of his face with a closed fist. The worker fell to the ground and the inmate was shackled and placed in solitary confinement.
The worker suffered bruising and swelling to his face and was taken to Altoona Regional for an examination.
