UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State sophomore Zach Zwinak (Frederick, Md.) was voted as the Iron Workers Local Union No. 3 "Ironman of the Game" for his outstanding offensive performance against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Zwinak received the most fan votes of the four nominees this week to win the honor.
Zwinak re-wrote his career-high rushing output with 141 yards on 21 carries in Saturday’s game at Nebraska. During Penn State’s first possession, Zwinak raced 50 yards for a touchdown to start the game out with a bang for the Nittany Lions. His touchdown run marked the team’s longest play from scrimmage in 2012. Once again, Zwinak rushed for more than 100 yards for the fourth time in his last six games.
This year’s "Ironman of the Game" winners have included Allen Robinson (Southfield, Mich.) for the Ohio game, Michael Zordich (Youngstown, Ohio) for the Navy game, Matt McGloin (Scranton, Pa.) for the Temple game, Gerald Hodges (Paulsboro, N.J) for the Northwestern and Purdue games, Bill Belton (Sicklerville, N.J.) for the Iowa game and Michael Mauti (Mandeville, La.) for the Virginia, Illinois, and the Ohio State games.
