Now that Act 44 “the tolling of I-80 ” has been temporarily blocked by the federal government the people and business of Clearfield County can sigh in relief. Act 44 which Camille “Bud “George voted for, supported and defended was put off by federal common sense. Taxing the citizens of Clearfield County for moving about their daily lives, places the burden of supporting Philadelphia Mass Transit squarely on the backs of Central Pennsylvania. The destruction of transportation jobs (our largest private employment base) would add insult to injury.
But we are not out of the woods yet…the politicians are just warming up.
Representative David Levdansky, who along with Camille Bud George, voted in favor of Act 44, hopes to still see state budget holes filled with Clearfield dollars. Mr. Levdanksy, as quoted in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette recommends a plan C, “C standing for cuts.” Then he further says, “He suggested that PennDOT eliminate projects planned for northern Pennsylvania…”
He, like Camille George, feels that our area should pay for the bailing out of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia’s mass transit. Governor Rendell has called for a joint Special Session of the General Assembly on May 4 to address Transportation funding. We must call for the repeal of Act 44, and elimination of the corrupt and bloated Turnpike commission.
As for Camille “Bud George” it’s time for a change. Keeping your chairmanship on committees and being good buddies with the governor and others is one thing, but the poor lack of judgment when it comes to the interests of our people should not be excused.
