UNIVERSITY PARK – For the second year, IMPAQT, a Pittsburgh-based Search Marketing Firm, has encouraged Penn State students competing in the Google Online Marketing Challenge (GOMCHA) by providing the class a $1,000 grant to be divided by the winners. The challenge expands students’ career opportunities by increasing their experience in the search engine marketing industry.
Search marketing is something that many universities have yet to capture in their curriculum, even though it has become a source of great opportunity in life beyond graduation. By supporting Penn State’s efforts, IMPAQT hopes to increase the awareness of search marketing as a successful field and a necessity in current university curriculum.
“Search marketing is one of the things that can be taught and has specific skills that can be learned,” says Penn State alumna and IMPAQT’s Director of Product Management, Carol Brenneisen. “It is surprising how much it’s not covered and by including it in the Google Challenge course, Penn State is really giving students a leg up on the competition for jobs.”
The Google Online Marketing Challenge is meant to broaden students’ knowledge and ability in search marketing by giving them hands on experience with managing a real client’s account. Students participate in the challenge as part of IST 402, a class for emerging technologies, taught by Jim Jansen, Assistant Professor of Information Sciences and Technology.
