DUBOIS – Electing a new governor for the State of Pennsylvania will be a priority in the election process this year. The Greater DuBois Chamber is hosting a forum for the candidates on April 28 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Hiller Auditorium at Penn State DuBois. This event is free and open to the public.
The candidates will be asked to answer questions related not only to our state, but especially how they will respond to issues within our region. The Chamber is asking for community input with regard to questions to pose to the candidates. Please contact the Chamber at 371-5010 with your suggestions. All questions will be asked by the facilitator for the evening, Jay Philippone, owner of Priority Communications. There will be no questions from the audience.
Nancy Micks, chamber president, said, “I have tried to express to those representing the candidates that the people of our area are as important to their election as those in the larger cities. The candidates need to come here to answer our questions and respond to our needs.” Continuing, Micks added, “I don’t understand how sending someone to speak on your behalf (a surrogate speaker) shows a commitment to all voters.”
Of the eight candidates for governor, four are Democrats, two are Republicans and two are Independent. The response from the candidates’ campaigns to date:
Anthony Williams (D) – No Response Tom Corbett (R) – Surrogate Speaker
