AT PARKER DAM STATE PARK FOR: April 30-May 9
April 30
Trail of New Giants Hike: 3:00 p.m.- Lou and Helen Adams CCC Museum
Come take an informative hike up to the vista on the Trail of New Giants. On the way up you can see some of our fallen giants and learn about the new generation that is replacing them. Please be prepared for the moderately difficult terrain and to hike in some areas that may be a little muddy.
Amphibian Hike: 7:00 p.m.- Environmental Education Classroom
Nothing heralds the arrival of spring quite like spring peepers. At Parker Dam our wetlands serve as home for a host of amphibians including a chorus of spring peepers. During this program, we will search for some of these seasonal singers and their amphibian friends in the nearby wetlands. We’ll be outside to take a short walk, so dress accordingly.

GPS to Geocaching: 3:00 p.m.- Environmental Education Classroom
Many outdoors-people own a GPS unit. If you’d like to get familiar with its functions, or would like to give one a try, come borrow one of the park’s units (first come, first served) or bring your own and learn. We’ll take a short walk, so dress accordingly.
Black Bears in Pennsylvania: 8:00 p.m.- Campground Amphitheater
Populations of black bears in the state of Pennsylvania have been doing one thing lately- growing! This program will help you to understand why their population has grown, and why these elusive creatures are truly amazing animals.

Critters in the Classroom: 11:30 a.m.- Environmental Education Classroom
Come join us for an informal introduction to some of your PA wildlife. You will have the chance to view mounts of many of your favorite native animals while learning about the roles they play in our park and in your backyards. Guests will include such species as the great horned owl, red fox, black bear, and many more.
Tea and Talk: 6:00 p.m.- Beach House
Meet for some “PA Wild” conversation and try some hot, sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown right here in the park. You will have to bring along a cup/mug suitable for hot beverages, and your questions about the park, its history, and its wildlife.

Tree Hike: 3:00 p.m.- outside Park Office
Have you ever wondered what kinds of trees adorn your yard, or perhaps why some trees survive better than others do in your local forest? These questions, and more, will be addressed on this interpretive “tree” hike. If you have any arboreal quandaries, or just would like to meet your state tree, then this program might interest you.
Race Against Time: PA’s Seasonal Pools: 8:00 p.m.- Campground Amphitheater
Once called “vernal ponds,” these important habitats provide essential locations for some of our threatened and endangered amphibians and other animals. Come see a short video and learn about these vital places and the animals that rely on them.

Animal Skull ID: 2:00 p.m.- Beach House Steps
Have you ever had the opportunity to see some of your local wildlife without their fur? If you’d like to learn how to identify a few animals, minus their fur, then this program is for you. Come see some unique species and learn why a skull can give you clues about how an animal may have lived!
Meet the CCC: 5:00 p.m.- Lou and Helen Adams CCC Museum
Over 70 years ago, the young men of this nation began public works that still last today. Their efforts laid the foundation for many of our state parks, including Parker Dam. Come celebrate their efforts by learning about their achievements at the Lou and Helen Adams CCC Museum.
