CLEARFIELD – The PA Traffic Injury Prevention Project is pleased to host the Standardized Child Passenger Safety Training Program along with PennDOT. This training will be held from May 18-21 at the Crystal Fire Department on 319 Erie Ave. in St. Marys. Course hours are 9 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m., with attendance being required for all four days.
This four-day course developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is designed to educate individuals to become certified as child passenger safety technicians. It is open to anyone interested in helping to educate parents about car seat use. This training program has been used across the country to educate police, fire, EMS and hospital staff. It is also beneficial for other agencies that work with children and families or that transport children. Nurses can receive Continuing Education Contact Hours through the Emergency Nurses Association for attending this course. Students participating in the course will learn how to properly select, use and install child safety seats and to teach parents to do the same.
This course gives agencies the opportunity to have a certified child passenger safety resource person and this helps with risk management. These classes are held regionally across the state only a few times each year. On the final day of the course, a car seat inspection event will be held at the Crystal Fire Department from noon until 4 p.m. Cost of the training is $75, which covers the cost of course materials, a course manual and a two-year certification. Some scholarships may be available for the cost of the training.
Morning coffee/juice and lunch will be provided each day for students at no extra cost.
