HARRISBURG – SEC Bellefonte SD Solar One, LLC, has been awarded a $1.860 million state grant to establish a Solar Energy Program at Bellefonte High School in Centre County, according to Senator Jake Corman (R-34).
“The new solar system will generate approximately 40 percent of the electric energy requirements of the school buildings at the project,” Corman said. “This will help to cut costs and improve energy efficiency – allowing the school district to “go green” when meeting energy needs. I’m pleased that this important project – which will save money and protect our environment – has received state funding.”
Corman said the grant was awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority and will be used to assist in the purchase and installation of a rooftop-mounted solar photovoltaic system that will produce 1.226 million kWhs of energy annually. SEC Bellefonte Solar One will sell the power to Bellefonte School District as part of a power purchase agreement.
