Thomas S. Dobis, Sr., 85 of Love Street in DuBois, died Monday at his residence.
Bborn on May 4, 1924 in DuBois, he was the son of Stephen W. Dobis and Mary (Makufka) Dobis.
He was a veteran of the US Army and served in World War II, as a commander in the 672nd Amphiban Tractor Battalion.Â
He retired as a storekeeper after 42 years of service with the Chessie System and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.
Mr. Dobis was a member of the First Baptist Church in DuBois and of the Gateway Humane Society. He enjoyed gardening, small engine and car repair, liked to hunt and fish and enjoyed his family.
On June 20, 1953, he married Ruth (Stockdale) Dobis. She survives him in DuBois.
He is survived by his son, Thomas S. Dobis, Jr. and his wife, Janie of DuBois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Dobis.
Visitation will be held from 2 -4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday and from and at 10 a.m. Friday at the Goble Baronick Funeral Home.
The DuBois Area Honor Guard will conduct a ritual service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mark Montgomery officiating.
Full Military Honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the funeral home.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
