Ram pitcher Vince Vavala went the distance scattering just five hits to pick up the win.
Curwensville picked up a lone run in the first and one more in the top of the fourth inning to complete their offensive output.
Shane Hoover had two hits for the Golden Tide, one a fourth inning solo home run that actually tied the score at two each before the Rams would score three in their half of the fourth to surge ahead 5-2.
Senior Sam Gardner stroked a double in the losing effort for Curwensville.
All eleven hits for the Rams were singles with catcher Joe Holmberg going four for four and Vavala three for four. Holmberg also knocked in three teammates to pace the Johnsonburg offense.
Curwensville coach Denny Johns, tasting defeat for the first time, said, “Vavala did a great job of mixing his pitches, keeping us off balance as we didn’t hit with any of authority at all this afternoon.”
Johns then added, “We did play fairly well but they just had enough timely hits which proved to get us in the end.”
The Tide are home on Thursday when they host the Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic at 4:15 pm.
