CLEARFIELD – Many entries were received and the Fair Board thanks everyone for entering! “Maizey,” submitted by Pamela Risser of Mahaffey, was chosen as the winning name.
Risser thought of the name after researching the history of Clearfield County and learned that Clearfield was called Chincleclamousche, the name of the Native American chief of the “Cornplanters” tribe of Senecas. Maize is the name for Indiana corn.
“We love that the history of the County was taken into consideration” stated Brenda Hunter, publicity director for the Fair.
“Mooley”, last year’s collectible plush cow, was named after the siren that adorns the Clearfield County Courthouse. The siren was used in war time as a Civil Defense alert. Since then, the siren is used to alert the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department.
Risser will receive two tickets to see the Beach Boys on August 3rd and a collectible plush of “Maizey”.
