SOFTBALL
WILLIAMSPORT – Freshman right-hander Holly Lansberry of Curwensville pitched a five-hitter and also had three hits and two runs batted to lead Lycoming past Wilkes 10-3 Sunday afternoon.
Lansberry struck out seven and walked two in her third win as the 4-12 Lady Warriors salvaged the nightcap of the non-conference twinbill.
She also scored two runs.
On Saturday, Lansberry went the distance on a four-hitter against Lebanon Valley but suffered a 4-0 loss at Annville. She recorded seven strikeouts and issued two walks. Only one of the hosts’ runs were earned.
Lansberry socked a pinch-hit double in the 2-0 second-game setback.
In Sunday’s opener, freshman catcher Ashley Demchak of Curwensville belted a two-run homer for Lycoming, but Wilkes notched a 6-4 win.
Demchak has both of the Lady Warriors’ home runs.

SALEM, Va. – Junior first baseman Brittany Pataky of Clearfield had three hits in nine at-bats for Lock Haven in Salem Tournament double-headers Saturday and Sunday.
In the Lady Eagles’ 5-2 win over Ohio Valley, Pataky singled twice and drove in her fourth run of the season.
Lock Haven (6-6) also beat Wheeling (W.Va.) Jesuit 4-1 and West Liberty (W.Va.) 5-4 before losing to Fairmont (W.Va.) State 5-2.
Pataky has played in 12 games, 10 as a starter, and is tied for second on the team in hits with 11, including two doubles, and is fourth in hitting with a .297 average.
She has not made an error in 103 chances.

ALTOONA – Sophomore second baseman Alanna Luzier of Frenchville (Clearfield Area H.S.) is hitting .292 and freshman utility player Jenessa Stiles of Curwensville is hitting .182 for Penn State-Altoona, which has not played since March 11.
Luzier had seven hits in six games while Stiles had two hits in five games as the Lady Lions got off to a 5-2-1 start in the Fast Pitch Dream Games at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Luzier scored three runs, drove in one and stole one base.
Stiles had three RBIs with a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single in a 10-10 tie with Keystone.

BASEBALL
SLIPPERY ROCK – Junior shortstop Adam Jury of Bigler hit safely in every game as Slippery Rock opened its home schedule by sweeping doubleaders from Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division rival Clarion 15-0 and 8-0 Friday and 4-3 and 10-2 Saturday at Jack Critchfield Park.
The Clearfield Area High School graduate scored five runs and drove in a pair for The Rock, which leveled its PSAC-West record at 4-4 and overall mark at 10-10.
Jury had one double and one triple among his five hits that lifted the two-year letterman’s average above .200 for the first time this season at .222.
He is 16-for-72 with nine RBIs in his 20 starts and has a .848 fielding average for 79 chances.

ERIE – Senior catcher Phil Solley of Grampian and senior right fielder Bart McGary of Curwensville each had two hits as Pitt-Bradford won two of three games on its weekend trip to Ohio.
The former Curwensville Area High School teammates are among the top five hitters for the Panthers, who are 5-5 after sweeping Wilmington College 13-6 and 8-5 Saturday and losing to Otterbein 9-6 Sunday.
Solley, who had a pair of RBI-singles and also stole a base, is third with a .444 average (12-for-27), while McGary is fifth at .371 (13-for-35) and second in hits. They are second and third in runs batted in with 13 and 10, respectively.
McGary, third in runs scored with nine, has not had a misplay in 19 chances, while Solley’s fielding average is .980 with just one error in 50 chances.
Freshman pitcher-outfielder Ben McGary of Curwensville lowered his earned run average to 5.68 with one inning of one-hit relief at Otterbein. He’s allowed 14 hits and four earned runs in 6.1 innings, striking out seven batters, walking one and hitting one.

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Junior first baseman Kyle Kline of Clearfield saw his batting average dip to .333 after going hitless in two at-bats for Penn State-Behrend in a 10-0 loss to host St. Thomas More Friday.
The Lions won the nightcap 5-4 for an 8-2 record.
In six games, five as a starter, Kline has collected six hits, including three doubles, and driven in four runs.
His fielding average is .945 for 55 chances. He’s been involved in five double plays.

FOOTBALL
CLARION – Juniors Nate Sipes and Shawn Sopic of Curwensville were two of 20 football players among the 131 scholar athletes honored by Clarion University at the annual Bob Carlson Scholar Athlete Luncheon last month.
The event recognizes student athletes for achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher or having two consecutive semesters of a 3.2 GPA or higher or consecutive semesters of a 3.2 GPA or higher in the spring and fall terms of 2009.
The total number represents 39 percent of Clarion University students participating in athletics.
