CLEARFIELD – Nature Abounds, a national non-profit headquartered in Clearfield, launched their spring clean-up season this past Saturday. Twenty volunteers from across the region cleaned up litter at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds. Among some of the odd items found were tweezers, a pacifier, and a set of false teeth.
Other volunteer clean-ups are being planned for the Clearfield area. Next on the list are volunteer events being planned for the Curwensville Lake Recreation Area that recently experienced significant damage due to flooding. Nature Abounds is working with the Curwensville Lake Authority to recruit and manage volunteers to help get the area ready for summer season.
According to Nature Abounds President Melinda Hughes-Wert, “We’re looking for people interested in lending a hand, whether it be with helping clean up debris on trails or working in the picnic table areas. There’s a lot of work to be done”.
Interested volunteers, looking to help with the clean-ups at Curwensville Lake or at other future events, can contact Nature Abounds at 814-765-1453 or at volunteer@natureabounds.org.
Nature Abounds plans to open a business office in Clearfield in 2010, and eventually build a nature center somewhere along the I-80 corridor in the future. Since incorporating in the summer of 2008, the organization has launched two opportunities, IceWatch USA and Watch the Wild, engaging over 750 volunteers in forty-eight states in becoming more aware of their natural surroundings.
