OMAHA, Neb. – Clearfield Area High School graduate Kyle Keane of Bradford fell one win short of achieving one milestone goal and two wins shy of another with a 1-2 record at the 2010 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Nebraska-Omaha’s Sapp Fieldhouse Friday.
A 10-5 loss to Gavin Nelson (22-3) of Augustana (S.D.) College in the second round of consolations ended the Pitt-Johnstown 165-pounder’s hopes of becoming an All-American for the second time and ending his career with 100 wins.
Keane, ranked No. 7 after placing third in the Super (East) Regional 1, was edged 4-2 by No. 8 Taylor May of Nebraska-Kearney in the first round.
In the wrestlebacks, the redshirt senior eliminated Thomas Graszi (17-18) of Ashland (Ohio) University with a 4-1 decision before meeting Nelson, who had been pinned by defending champion and No. 1-ranked Josh Shields (36-3) of Mercyhurst in the quarterfinals.
Keane, an All-American in 2008 when he placed fourth, finished the season 28-10 for a 98-32 career record.
