E. Irene Rishel, 88 of Curwensville died on March 10 at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
She was born on Dec. 20, 1921 in Curwensville, a daughter of the late Forest Charles and Loretta Mae (Hawk) Bornhoft.
Mrs. Rishel was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Curwensville Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and Deacon. She was also a lifetime member and past president Robert Ferguson Post #842 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Curwensville and served on the board of the American Cancer Society where she was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 1975. Mrs. Rishel was named the Curwensville Rotary Citizen of the Year in 1987, served as the director of the Curwensville Girl Scouts and was past president of the Curwensville/Pike Township Historical Society where on October 24, 1983, she received their Certificate of Appreciation.
She is survived by her husband, William H. ‘Sam’ Rishel, whom she wed May 30, 1941 in Curwensville, daughters: Carla J. Williams and husband Glenn of Curwensville and Edith Ann Young of Curwensville; grandchildren: Bobbie Lynne Stagi of Hawk Run, Leslie Ann Pennington and husband Dean of Curwensville and Lester ‘Harv’ Lippert and fiancé Nicole Guthridge of Reynoldsville; great-grandchildren, Trevon, Angel, Jacob, Miya and Ali and sister Mary Ellen Telban and husband Charles of Venetia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson William ‘Smokey’ Osborn and two brothers William and Forest Charles Rishel.
Funeral services will be held at the Curwensville Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Gary Jewart and the Rev. Glenn Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Friday from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Curwensville Presbyterian Church, 430 Locust Street, Curwensville.
