DuBois – A fire that occurred on Friday in Sandy Township is under investigation by the Sandy Township Fire Department and Pennsylvania State Police.
According to a press release from Sandy Township Fire Chief Bob Wilson, the fire occurred at 1300 Maple Ave. Friday afternoon. When firefighters arrived they found the addition and the back part of the two-story building on fire, with the flames extending up and inside the two-story section of the building.
Wilson said that firefighters made a great initial attack and had the fire put down quickly. There was heavy smoke damage throughout the home and the one-story addition sustained heavy damage. Wilson said that homeowner Andy Irvine and two others were home at the time of the fire and that they escaped uninjured.
No damage estimate was given. Wilson said the home was insured.
Maple Avenue was closed for two hours. Other agencies responding to the fire were: Sandy Township and DuBois City Police Departments, Sandy Township Emergency Management Agency, National Fuel and Gas, Penelec, Sandy Township Public Works, DuBois Emergency Medical Services and the DuBois Chapter of the American Red Cross.
“Firefighters did a great job and the excellent initial attack saved the dwelling,” said Wilson. He expressed appreciation to everyone who helped at the scene.
