PUNXSUTAWNEY – The Pennsylvania State Police want to remind the public to use caution when giving contributions to telemarketers who link themselves to various law enforcement agencies.
Captain Kimberly A. Leemhuis, commanding officer of Troop C said there are many requests made by very convincing callers that may mislead the public. In a press release she said that the day-to-day operational costs and equipment used by the state police is funded through state revenue. If a caller attempts to solicit funds for equipment for state troopers, Leemhuis recommends that you deny the request and end the call.
She said that if a caller is attempting to scam you, the longer they talk to you, the better chance they have to convince you they are legitimate.
