Lawrence L. McGovern, age 86, of Philipsburg passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Clearfield Hospital.
Born December 3, 1923 he was the son of the late Charles H. and Hortense McGovern.
He was a member of the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a Navy Veteran of W.W. II and was also a licensed pilot, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #3450, Philipsburg.
Mr. McGovern attended the Cooper Township High School and was owner-operated of the McGovern Coal Company and was later employed by the Mid-State Airport.
In January 1952 he wed the former Helen Sotak who preceded him in death in 2009.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Gantt and her husband Todd, Sr. of State College; a sister, Anne Motter of Webster, FL; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clair McGovern.
A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced. The arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg.
