PHILIPSBURG – A Philipsburg man was airlifted for treatment to burn injuries following an incident on Monday.
According to the state police in Philipsburg, Rodney Curtis was attempting to use gasoline to help in lighting a fire in a fireplace on Locust Street in Philipsburg. Police do not know what he used to light the fire, but the gasoline ignited and engulfed him and lit his clothes on fire. He was extinguished by family members. Emergency responders arrived on scene and Curtis was airlifted to a burn center in Pittsburgh.
Police did not know his condition at the time of the report and stated that he had burns to the upper part of his body and face.
Police would like to remind the public never to use an ignitable or flammable liquid to start a fire.
