ST. PAUL, MN – Standing side by side with Master Builders at the 23rd Annual Donnie Smith Bike Show, March 27-28, at the St. Paul River Centre in St. Paul, Minnesota will be the build teams of the 2010 Donnie Smith Chopper Class Challenge . Five build teams with members ranging in age from 14 to 19 will vie for the honor and a year worth of bragging rights if judged to be the Overall Winner in the 2010 Donnie Smith Chopper Class Challenge.
The Bike Klub of Bernice McNaughton High School, Moncton, New Brunswick,Canada currently holds the title. Due to winter travel restrictions the Bike Klub is unable to attend.
Stepping to the challenge are veteran build teams Clearfield County Career and Technical Center (CCCTC) of Clearfield, PA ( inst. Dan Kerlin) and Eden Jr./Sr. High School, Eden, NY ( instr.Steve Jones). Joining the challenge are New Richmond High School, New Richmond, WI (instr.Walt Campion); Caledonia Sr. High School (Chopper Club) Caledonia, MN (instr.Scott Martin) and Mitchell Technical Institute, Mitchell, SD (instr.Darin Maltsberger).
The Donnie Smith Chopper Class Challenge was founded in 2004. Director and founder of the DSCCC, Scottie Ard says the five schools in the challenge represent the top teams from the across the United States and Canada. Build teams must design and complete a ground up build or rebuild of a motorcycle with the majority of parts being designed and fabricated by the build teams.
