CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Lady Tide basketball squad faired somewhat better the second time around against the DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) Lady Cardinals but still found themselves on the short end in losing Monday night at home to DCC, 59-42.
The two squads met earlier this season, in DuBois, with the Lady Cardinals winning that contest 56-28.
Tess Bloom did all she could to give the Tide a chance in the rematch as the senior guard scorched the nets for 25 points. Bloom was 12-14 from the free throw line.
The Lady Tide battled the Lady Cardinals as much as they could in the first half but found themselves down 41-23 at the halftime break.
Curwensville head coach Rusty McCracken spoke after the game about the effort from his squad, “These girls never quit playing hard and tonight was no different. They came out in the second half even though down by 18 and outscored DuBois Central 19-18.”
The Lady Tide played so well and hard over the final sixteen minutes that they cut the DCC lead down to just 10 points with four and half minutes to play in the game. However, the Lady Cardinals seemed to have the answers when needed and were able to pull away to pick up the victory.
DCC was paced by Miller Hopkins who scored a team high 21 points. Lauresa Gulvas chipped in with 11 to give Hopkins a hand in the Cardinal offense.
DuBois Central Catholic also beat the Lady Tide junior varsity in the evening’s first contest.
Curwensville,1-13, travels to Harmony on Wednesday to face the Lady Owls. The junior varsity battle starts at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
The Lady Owls defeated the Tide back on January 4th at Curwensville 64-40.
