CLEARFIELD – The Directors of the Clearfield County Fair recently returned from the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs Convention, and for the first time ever, with all the Grandstand Enterntainment confirmed.
Celebration of the 150th Clearfield County Fair will begin Aug 2 with the Fireman’s Parade and Fireworks by R&R Fireworks. On Aug. 4 rock legend ZZ Top will make their first appearance in Clearfield County. Thursday will feature Full Pull Productions Truck & Tractor Pull. The Hell Drivers will return Saturday afternoon to thrill those of all ages with car stunts and more.
Entertainment for Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday evening cannot yet be announced per request of the artist’s management; however, an oldies favorite will be making a return after a long absence; a rock n roll favorite will have the grandstand screaming; and a very talented comedian will have the crowd in stitches. Online sales of reserved seating tickets for all the Grandstand Shows are projected to be available at the fair’s official Web site in March.
One of the greatest midways in Clearfield County Fair history is also returning. Reithoffer Shows made their debut in Clearfield in 1980. Their last apperance was in 1992. Reithoffer Shows is the innovator when it comes to spectacular rides and attractions. They will bring a dazzingling array of things you have never seen in this area. Rides such as the Tornado, Dutch Wheel, Speed, and Full Tilt are just a few of the spectacular and thrill rides chosen by the Directors that will be on the midway. Photos of the rides and more information on Reithoffer Shows can be found on their website www.reithoffershows.com. All day access to mechanical rides is free with paid gate admission (ages 4 & over).
The Expo II Plaza, also free with gate admission, will feature new & returning entertainment this year, Buffo the World’s Strongest Clown – not your ordinary clown, returns after a long absence at the fair. This gentle giant weighs in at over 200 pounds and has biceps that are bigger than most men’s thighs. He juggles bowling balls as well as hatchets, meat cleavers, fire and chain saws – as long as they’re not turned on! He rips telephone books in half and balances extension ladders and children sitting in chairs on his face. He lies on a bed of nails buried under a stack of cement blocks and walks on broken glass and machetes in his bare feet. He makes animals appear and disappear and escapes from chains, ropes, handcuffs and a strait jacket. He even has a little dog that does almost as many tricks as he does!
Bring the kids and make a lasting memory at the First Bite Fishing Tank where they can learn how to handle different species of fish; learn how to handle different species of live bait; and overcome their fears of fish and bait. All fish are returned safely to the tank.
Now imagine the world of antic sounds and vibrant colors of exotic plants, palm trees, and animals. Families will travel through a rainforest as their tour guide Bixby takes them on a magical journey! Families will experience the excitement of a unique blend of magic, audience participation, sing-a-long and a menagerie of exotic animal interaction, as Bixby brings awareness on conservation and preservation of the rainforest.
The David H. Litz Grove Stage will feature a variety of entertainment throughout the week including the local favorite The Moore Brothers, Ryan Pelton, Tribute to Elvis Presley, and 11-year old singing sensation Eva Blankenhorn, you have to hear her to believe how sensational she is. Eva will also be performing during the 2nd Annual Queen for a Day program. Harness Racing will take center stage on the half mile track in front of the grandstand Monday through Thursday. All the Expo II Plaza activities, Grove Stage Entertainment, Harness Racing, spectacular rides, plus the livestock, agriculture and grange exhibits; photography and art exhibits, a kid’s day show on Tuesday, and commercial exhibits are all free with a paid gate admission of $8 (ages 4 and over). Children under 4 are admitted free. A separate ride pass may be purchased if those under age 4 wish to ride. For those who do not wish to ride but still want to take in all the other free activities, an advance walk-around pass will be made available prior to the fair for only $5 (while supplies last). Also to be made available is a $7 ride pass that also includes all the free activities.
