St. Mary’s – After winning the Clearfield Duals this past weekend, highlighted by the school’s 700th dual meet victory, the Bison wrestlers were back in action trying to avoid a letdown.
Though lackluster at times, the Bisons (11-0) were able to travel to the “Dutch Oven” and come away with a 49-16 triumph over the now 3-5 Flying Dutch. The win was the Bisons eighth dual victory in eight days!
The match started off at 215 with the feature bout of the night on tap. St. Marys’ best wrestler Sean Sadosky (24-0) was out to avenge his upset pin to Clearfield’s Andre Buck in last year’s district final. Some measure of revenge was accomplished as Sadosky shut out Buck 10-0.
Sophomore Jordan Lancaster picked up his first varsity dual meet win with a 9-6 shoot out over Kyle Schneider. Lancaster’s big throw for five points in the first period gave him an early lead and he was able to hold off a late rally by Schneider to set the team score at 4-3 St. Mary’s.
Bison Shane Peters was the recipient of a forfeit at 103 to give Clearfield their first lead of the night, one they would never relinquish. Peters’ easy 24th win of the season leads the Bisons.
Freshman Christian Stone used a third period reversal to edge Evan Smith 2-0 and pick up his 23rd win of the season.
Fellow freshman Nolan Barger also picked up his 23rd win of the season at 119. Barger had an easier go of it than Stone did by putting on a clinic in his 15-0 technical fall.
If you had Kodie Lowder in the “pin pool” you would have come up a winner as Lowder cradled Alex Coudriet and decked him in 21 seconds. That set the team score at 23-4.
St. Mary’s finally got back on the scoreboard at 130 as Sam Miller bested Max Von Gunden 4-3.
Andrew Hill used his usual workmanlike performance in garnering a 5-1 regular decision over Darren Lyons.
At 140 Shane Harper was just one move short in his upset bid over 18-8 Dutch senior Butch Yetzer. Yetzer nicely countered a big throw attempt by Harper to prevail 5-2 and bring St. Mary’s as close as they would come the rest of the night at 26-10.
Derek Danver used his series of takedowns and tilts to easily technical fall Allen Gurskey 19-4 in 4:35.
Wil Beauseigneur used a risky power move on freshman Joe McLaughlin that almost back-fired, but Wil came out on top for the fall at 2:38.
Michael Brennen returned the six points at 160 by pinning Gabe Ford of Clearfield in 1:14.
Senior Logan Shadeck returned volley on St. Mary’s by flattening Alex Geitner at the 3:54 mark.
189 pounder Cliff Hill picked up his 22nd win the easy way as St. Marys had no one to send out.
Clearfield will be back in action Thursday night when they host the Brockway Rovers.
After the match Bison Head Coach Jeff Aveni expressed that heartfelt wishes and prayers be sent out to the Montoursville wrestling team from the Clearfield wrestling community. Two of their wrestlers that competed at the Clearfield duals where involved in tragic car accident Monday evening.
