AMESVILLE – Moshannon Valley swept the last four bouts to turn a closely-contested match into a 39-23 victory over visiting Curwensville in scholastic wrestling action Tuesday night.
The Golden Tide (3-6) held the lead on three occasions, the last time at 23-21 following Alex Holt’s decision at 135 pounds and Brett Sutika’s major decision at 140.
Then, Logan Cook put the hosts in front to stay by pinning Wes McGarry with just 20 seconds left in the 145-pound bout, and James Stodart and Dylan Ludwig followed with one-point wins to clinch Mo Valley’s ninth triumph in 21 matches.
Stodart nipped Kyle Kyler 8-7 at 152 and Ludwig (19-5) edged Alex Holland 4-3.
At 171, Black Knight Tyler Martin (18-9) closed it out with his 16th fall of the season.
Early on, Curwensville led 6-0 after Jonathan Michaels received a forfeit at 189, 10-6 after Jordan Russell (8-2) handled Kody Mayhew 10-1 at 103.
However, Derek Brothers’ first-period fall at 125 proved to be the Golden Tide’s lone win in the ensuing four matches. The pin was the seventh on his team-best 12-2 resume.
Mo Valley’s 21-16 advantage was erased by Holt’s 8-7 squeaker over Mike Ohler and Sutika’s 13-4 bonus win over T.J. Lewis, setting the stage for the Black Knights’ strong finish.
Curwensville returns to Patton Hall Thursday against District 9 Class AA power Ridgway, 11-1 after Tuesday’s 54-16 win over Brockway. The Elkers’ lone loss was 33-27 to District 10 Class AA kingpin Reynolds (16-0) in the finals of the Brookville Ultimate Duals Saturday night.
