Following up on its first ever Big Dog Tournament title, the Clearfield Bison wrestling team stayed hot by thrashing the DuBois Beavers, 47-19, in dual meet action Wednesday night in DuBois. With the win, Clearfield now raises its record to 3-0.
Cody Lansberry, making his varsity debut, started the Bison stampede at 140 lbs with a second period fall over Chris Powers. Trailing 6-1, Lansberry chose to start the 2nd period in the neutral position and hit a mixer to record the pin in 2:27. “That was a big win by Cody to get us started,” said head coach Jeff Aveni.
At 145,
Clearfield went right back to work at 152 as junior Derek Danver came off the bottom in the second period and flattened Matt Zimmerman in 3:15.
Wil Beauseigneur was in a tight match with Joe Morrison at 160 before the Beaver was able to work for the third period fall.
At 171 Clearfield gathered more team points when Logan Shadeck, in his first dual meet action of the season, hammered Landon Hanna by a 13-4 major decision.
Cliff Hill continued the winning ways for the Bisons with his own major decision, 12-3, over John Rivera at 189.
DuBois came right back at 215 to tighten the match at 20-16 when Ken Dixon pinned Clearfield’s Jordan Lancaster in 1:30.
That would be as close as the Beavers would get on the night as the Bisons dominated the next five bouts to easily pull away and record the dual meet victory.
At 285, Andre Buck came off the bottom in a scoreless bout with a strong half nelson to deck Jon Sunealitis at 2:49.
At 103, Bison Shane Peters controlled Anthony Vizza for three periods for a 10-4 decision.
The match of the night took place at 112 with Clearfield freshman Christian Stone facing off against senior PIAA state qualifier T.J. Stanton of the Beavers. Stanton scored the opening takedown while Stone managed a 2nd period escape. Stone was able to tie the bout 2-2 in the third period as he kept the action going and forced
Neither wrestler was able to score in the one minute overtime period, nor could either manage any points in the two, 30-second ride out periods. The bout came down to the 30 second ultimate tiebreaker.

Nolan Barger, Clearfield’s other fabulous freshman, put on his own display at 119 as he built an 11-0 lead over senior Nick Bogacki before locking up a cradle and saying goodnight for the fall in 4:41.
At 125, Kodie Lowder earned a 5-4 decision over the Beaver’s talented freshman Garrett Brown.
Then at 130, Clearfield’s Max Von Gunden dropped a close 6-3 decision to Denny Robinson.
Andrew Hill closed things out at 135 with a first period fall over Matt Busatto to set the final match score at 47-19.
“We came out a little flat in the beginning of the match tonight, but stayed focused, wrestled hard and took care of business when we had to,” concluded Aveni.
Their next dual meet action will be January 19 when the host Philipsburg – Osceola.
