Monday night the Clearfield Bisons continued their dominance in the Purchase Line Lions Holiday Basketball Tournament. The Bisons have won the past six tournament titles and are off to a good start on their way to a 7th with a 67-24 victory over Calvary Baptist. Ben Johnson paced the Bison squad with 17 points while Trey Campman pitched in with 14. Eleven different Bisons contributed to the scoring outburst in the second half as the Bisons cruised to victory.
Clearfield got off to a sluggish start offensively as they missed their first nine three-point field goals, but with solid defensive ball pressure the Bisons were able to hold the young Baptist squad to only one point in the first frame as Clearfield lead 13-1. Chad Zurat, Curt Bell, Johnson, and Campman all added points in the period.
In the second quarter Calvary Baptist made a slight run at the Bisons as Allen Hellman dropped in six points to cut the deficit and hold the score at 27-12 at the half. Campman sparked the Bison scoring in the quarter by netting seven points.
In the second half the Bisons opened the flood gates as they pulled away with every possession. In the third quarter alone, eight different Bisons chipped in scoring baskets. Every player on the Bison traveling squad Monday night saw substantial action, which provided valuable playing experience for sophomores Curtis Frye, Robbie Myers, Brandon Houge, and Beau Swales.
Clearfield will be back in action Tuesday night at 7:45 when they take on the winner of Purchase Line and Harmony for the tournament title.
