DUBOIS – A West Long Avenue resident fired several gunshots, before he took his own life Saturday night, the DuBois City Police Department reported. They indicated a female victim suffered a wounded foot in the incident.
According to the report, police were initially dispatched for “a female with a gunshot wound to her foot.” Police received further information while en route to the scene, however. At this time, they learned that several shots had been fired from the first floor apartment but traveled through the ceiling and into the second floor residence.
Police indicated a female victim was struck in the bottom of her foot as a result. When they made contact with her, police said she believed the individual who fired the shots was still inside the first floor apartment. They said the victim was transported to the DuBois Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Police said they organized a perimeter around the residence and prohibited traffic flow in the area. For over an hour, police attempted to make contact with the individual responsible. They indicated they didn’t receive a response.
As a result, police said they assembled to gain access into the first floor apartment. They said while conducting a search, they located the individual who was deceased on his couch from a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
Police said that their investigation revealed that eight shots were fired. They indicated the shots traveled through the ceiling and into the second floor apartment. They said they then concluded the individual took his own life.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Sandy Township Police, Pennsylvania State Police and the DuBois Volunteer Fire Department.
