UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State has launched a new Web site as part of its ongoing efforts to inform citizens about how federal economic stimulus funds are supporting research across the University. To date, Penn State has received more than $71 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), aimed at creating and retaining jobs, and making sure the nation has the human and technological resources for long-term economic and scientific growth.
Visitors to the site can learn about the topics of individual projects and the faculty leading them, identify the amount of ARRA funds received by project, and link to news stories highlighting selected investigations.
Penn State created the Web site as part of an overall initiative led by the Association of American Universities, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, and the Science Coalition. Those groups unveiled a new Web site on Nov. 17 that highlights ARRA-sponsored research in all 50 states. Learn more online.
The Recovery Act, passed by Congress in February, has provided more than $21 billion for scientific research and development, the purchase of scientific equipment, and science-related construction — an affirmation of the essential role scientific inquiry and discovery play in both short-term recovery and long-term economic growth.
