HOWARD – U.S. Representative Glenn Thompson, R-Howard, reminded Pennsylvanians to take a moment to remember the sacrifices of our veterans.
“It is easy to take this day for granted,” said Thompson. “The federal government is closed in honor of the day. The Veterans’ Day sales are in full force and we are already anticipating the holiday season. But in the midst of our busy lives, we need to take a moment to honor Veterans’ Day.
“The soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen and coast guardsmen of our armed forces serve us on distant shores and in places where a holiday is not necessarily a day off. Many families of these servicemen and women anticipate the holidays with less joy because their loved ones won’t be home.
“On this day there are traditional ceremonies, visits to cemeteries, and prayer services you can attend. But even if you don’t have time to go to an event, you can display the flag, thank a serviceman or woman for their service and take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of the sacrifices our veterans have made.”
