CLEARFIELD – A 21-year-old Clearfield woman who has been accused of smuggling Xanax – a Schedule IV drug – to another inmate at the Clearfield County Jail waived her right to a preliminary hearing at Centralized Court Wednesday.
Alyssa Dawn Emigh, 21 of Clearfield, will faces charges of contraband/controlled substance; possession of controlled substance; two counts of manufacture, delivery and possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance; intentional possession of a controlled substance by person not registered; and altered/misbrand any controlled substance.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Emigh “cheeked” a Xanax pill that she had received from the jail nurse. She later delivered the drug to another inmate. Police stated that “cheeking” is the practice of an inmate hiding pills between their cheeks and gums. They said the inmates do so in order to hide the pill from jail personnel for use at a later time in a manner not sanctioned.
Police said that inmates Kristin Wilsoncorft and Heather Hulton both stated that Wilsoncroft received the pill from the defendant. They indicated that both inmates’ statements were given against their own penal interests.
On Oct. 22, Wilsoncroft, who was accused of possession of contraband while incarcerated at the jail, waived her right to a preliminary hearing.
Wilsoncroft was charged with contraband; two counts of possession of a controlled substance contraband by inmate prohibited; manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance; intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered.
According to the affidavit of probable cause in her case, on July 27, the deputy warden was informed Wilsoncroft had smuggled a controlled substance into the jail. It also stated that before the prison discipline board and local authorities, she admitted to smuggling in Suboxone. She also admitted that some of the Schedule III drug was given to another inmate in return for previously gained contraband.
In those court documents, police indicated that on July 28, Wilsoncroft’s cell at the jail was searched after personnel notification of the additional contraband. They stated that they found a Xanax pill that Wilsoncroft indicated was given to her by an inmate.
