DUBOIS – The DuBois City Police Department warns residents of “possible fraudulent activity/phone scams” in the area.
Police said they were advised by a South Avenue resident that he had received a call from an unknown person who claimed to be his grandson. They said the caller stated he was in Canada and needed $16,000 sent to him.
Police also said that a Chestnut Avenue resident reported that he received several phone calls over the past two days. They stated the man was told he had won $400,000. The caller advised that in order to claim the prize, $2,800 must be sent in advance. He was told once the amount was received, he would then be sent the $400,000.
“(We) want everyone to be aware that these types of calls are scams,” police said. “No one should ever give out any information or send money to someone they don’t know.”
