This week is the first of two consecutive road games for the Curwensville Golden Tide. After using their run game and the heavy rain to shut down the Brockway Rovers last week, the attention shifts to the Ridgway Elkers.
This game last year was a clinic on the run game of both teams. Both the Elkers and Tide ran for over 200 yards, but it was Curwensville taking the victory in a 47-6 rout. The key plays were from David Kalgren, who ran back an interception 55 yards for a score, and Jesse Hoover returning both a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns.
Last week, the Tide got back to their winning ways with a decisive and dominant 32-19 victory over Brockway. The run game was the big difference for Curwensville as both Jed Greslick and Alex Holland rushed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns each. Quarterback Sam Gardner nearly broke into triple digits as he finished with 99 yards and a score.
That type of offense has carried the Tide all season long and will have to be the backbone once again going against Ridgway.
Meanwhile, the Elkers are coming off of a 28-12 defeat at the hands of the Johnsonburg Rams. This would have been a close game between the two teams, but two back-to-back touchdowns by Johnsonburg early in the fourth quarter put the game away. The loss was the second straight by the Elkers.
It is going to be interesting as these two take to the field on Friday night. Kickoff between the Tide and the Elkers is set for 7 p.m.
