Oct. 4
Bike Parker Dam: 10:30 a.m.- outside Park Office
A “Get Outdoors PA” Program
Bring the bike out to the park and take a ride through the autumn beauty that is all around. During this easy to moderate length ride, you can learn more about the park and what can be found here. Most types of bicycles will be able to make the trek over the partly paved, partly dirt/gravel route. Participants under 12 must wear a helmet, to comply with state law. Everyone is encouraged to wear a helmet for safety’s sake.

Pennsylvania Fungi: Guest Speaker: Karen Croyle
2:00 p.m.- Environmental Education Classroom
In a cool, wet year like we are having, you may notice the tremendous numbers and diversity of fungi that can be seen growing in our yards and forests we explore. Fungi are very interesting organisms that play a huge role in most ecosystems, including forests. Join guest speaker Karen Croyle as she discusses fungi and the methods you can use to identify them. Then, take walk in the park where several fungi will be identified and discussed.

Discover Beaver Dam Trail: 1:00 p.m.- near Concession Stand
A “Get Outdoors PA” Program
One of the favorite trails of many visitors, this hike will explore areas rich in wildlife, history, and more. Come learn all about it during this 2-mile interpretive hike. Please wear appropriate footwear.
Oct. 24
Parker Dam’s 4th Annual Fall Festival and Pumpkin Float
1:00 p.m. until Evening- Day Use Area
Once again, come celebrate the traditions of fall. Apple cidering, candle dipping, and pumpkin carving are just a few of the activities to try. Look over the various wares of the vendors and try some traditional flavors of autumn. Stick around for the evening beach bonfire, tall tales, and the lighting of the pumpkins that will be set adrift on Parker Lake.

Laurel Run Trail: 11:00 a.m.- Lou and Helen Adams C.C.C. Museum
A “Get Outdoors PA” Program
This beautiful streamside trail has transformed into its awesome, autumn scenes. Discover how the stream has been used in the past and how it is being helped out today. This 2-mile interpretive hike will loop back into the Day Use Area along Mud Run Road. Please wear appropriate footwear.
If These Hills Could Talk…: 2:00 p.m.- Environmental Education Classroom
This part of Pennsylvania has seen a lot of change over the years. From untouched wilderness to an important role during industrial development, the resources of northern Pennsylvania have helped build a nation. Come learn about how, and how that use has affected the landscape. The history of PA’s forests is an incredible one.
Oct. 30
Natural Wonders Series: Bats: 1:00 p.m.- Environmental Education Classroom
Many people are afraid of bats. But, Pennsylvania bats are incredible creatures that play a valuable role in the habitats in which they live. Come learn why bats are so special and why there is no reason for their scary reputations. This program is a great opportunity for home-school students and anyone who wants to learn more about PA bats.
