Very few teams in Central Pennsylvania can claim to carry traditions like Clearfield and Tyrone. The Bisons have won six District 9 AAA titles under Head Coach Tim Janocko ranking them tops all time. The Golden Eagles have won seven District 6 AA titles under Head Coach John Franco. Franco has also lead his team to two state title games, most recently in 1999 when they defeated Mt. Carmel.
Even with the two teams winning traditions, perhaps, the biggest story line in the game will be who is lining up under center for both squads. Both teams will be sending out sophomore starting quarterbacks who are turning heads with each game played.
Curtis Frye will look to continue his aerial dominance over defenses, as he has completed 39 of his passes for over 750 yards and six touchdowns. Tyrone quarterback Steve Franco, who has started under center for his father in the last two contests, has completed 19 passes for over 400 yards and three touchdowns. Nick Patton has been Franco\’s favorite target amassing nearly 300 yards so far.
Senior wideout Trey Campman will look to continue his impressive streak looking for his fourth straight game with over 100 yards receiving. Currently Campman is leading the entire state with 426 yards receiving at a very impressive 142 yards a game. It may not be easy though as the Golden Eagle defense has only given up a total of 13 points in the last two games.
This year\’s game may carry even more excitement than last year\’s contest that saw Campman catch the eventual game-winning touchdown from his brother Jarrin with a little over six minutes left to play snapping Tyrone\’s 35-game regular season winning streak.
Kickoff is set for 7 P.M. at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field in Tyrone.
