BELLEFONTE – The Clearfield Fall Baseball Team ran into good pitching again Sunday afternoon and dropped decisions to host Bellefonte 6-2 and Jersey Shore 7-4.
Bellefonte\’s Levi Knoffsinger hurled a complete-game five-hitter in the opener. He struck out eight and walked two.
Loser Trevor Flanagan also went the distance, allowing seven hits, one walk and four earned runs. He fanned five.
Zach Moschbacher had two hits, one a triple, and two runs batted in for the winners.
Jarrett Fulmer had an RBI-double for Clearfield.
In the second game, coach Sid Lansberry\’s club was unable to solve Jersey Shore\’s Austin Mock and Telley Notevarp for a hit. Notevarp retired the last 15 batters, five on strikeouts, to pick up the win.
Clearfield\’s runs, all unearned, resulted from six walks, a hit batsman and two errors in the first two innings.
Jersey Shore, which broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning, was led by Mock\’s three singles.
Wes McGarry suffered the setback, surrendering seven hits and four earned runs while posting seven strikeouts and one walk.
Starting with a trip to DuBois Thursday for a 4:15 p.m. start, Clearfield (3-5) will be on the road for four games in as many days. The weekend slate features a nine-inning game against Philipsburg-Osceola Saturday at 10 a.m. at Osceola Mills and a double-header against Moshannon Valley Sunday at 1 p.m. at the high school field near Amesville.
