CLEARFIELD – Lois Richards, executive director of the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center, reported that enrollment is slightly higher than in recent years at Monday’s Joint Operating Committee meeting.
Richards said that the center currently has 386 students enrolled. She noted that most programs are full. She, however, added that the center could handle a few more students.
She said that the electronics program is the only one with less than 20 students. She said that they now have 13 enrolled, but the figure fluctuated almost daily between the same and 16 over the past two weeks.
Richards said that they initially believed that they’d have around 400 students. She said that many students could not return for their second year, as they had to fulfill graduation requirements in their member district.
“I would rather they graduate,” she said.
She said that many years ago, the center once averaged 450 or more students. She said that enrollment has declined in the member districts and resulted in the same at the center.
She said that the center still receives around 17 – 19 percent of the member districts’ enrollment and has since the 1980s.
“We’re pretty pleased,” Richards said.
