DUBOIS – In the City of DuBois signs for garagesales, yard sales and political signs could require permits. The first reading of Council Bill no. 1839, as amended, took place at DuBois City Council meeting Monday night.
The bill regulates signs of all kinds ranging from the usual business sign to yard sale signs to political signs. There are 57 definitions for all the sign types and terms related to signage. An example would be three definitions explaining what an awning is, a back-lit awning and an awning sign are. This doesn’t include sub-definitions.
The penalty for not complying with the ordinance carries a fine up to $600, plus costs, or up to thirty days in jail. This is the penalty per offense. Each sign is a separate offense and each day the offending sign is up is separate offense as the ordinance is written.
Signs for yard sales require a permit package kit that will include the regulations. People wishing to get permits for their yard sale signs can apply for a permit and get the kit at the city’s municipal building.
