CURWENSVILLE – A swarm of children flocked to Curwensville Dam Saturday as part of the Clearfield Conservation District’s Conservation Celebration.
“It’s been excellent. This has been the best year so far,” said Christy Thomas, administrative assistant with the Clearfield Conservation District.
At the celebration children could visit stands to participate in educational and entertaining activities. There was fishing at the beach, kayaks and canoes, cork gun shooting, and a calf were some of the more traditional activities present for the celebration’s fifth year. Children could get mountain pies and a drink for free.
New this year were exhibits on radio telemetry, geocaching and acid mine drainage. Some planned activities were unable to go off as plan. The snake and reptile exhibit was interrupted due to an emergency in Treasure Lake and budget concerns have furloughed Smokey Bear.
“I think it’s excellent that this many kids are interested in what we do,” said Thomas.
