Motorists Urged to Use Caution When Traveling Over the Holiday Weekend

PUNSXUTAWNEY – Cpt. Kimberly A. Leemhuis, commanding officer, Pennsylvania State Police Troop C Punxsutawney, would like to remind motorists to use caution when traveling over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

With Labor Day being the last major holiday of the summer, many people will take the opportunity to picnic and gather with friends and relatives. Please remember to obey the posted speed limit and buckle up while traveling to these events.

Labor Day will bring the close of summer, however, people should remember that this time of year brings the beginning a new school year. When school is in, people should exercise extreme care when traveling. Anytime there are young people close to roads, there is the potential for problems.

The school buses will be taking roads, transporting many students to and from school. We can make the bus driver’s job easier by obeying the law, said Leemhuis. Don’t tailgate and never pass a bus with red, flashing lights. Passing a school bus with red lights flashing will result in a substantial fine and license suspension.

As with all major holiday travel periods, troopers will be aggressively patrolling the roadways, placing special emphasis on specific violations, such as motorists who speed, drive aggressively, intoxicated drivers and all drivers and passengers not wearing safety belts.

Drive carefully and always buckle up, it saves lives.
