The Clearfield Elks Lodge No. 540 would like to remind all area high school seniors of the availability of SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS funded by the ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION.
The Most Valuable Student Scholarship provides scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 per year for students pursuing a four year degree in at a U.S. American college or university on a full time basis.
Male and female students compete separately. The applications, which have been simplified, are due on Nov.2 at the Clearfield Elks Lodge and will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. They may be obtained on Sept. 1 from your high school counselor, at the Clearfield Elks Lodge or online. Nationally $2.296 million dollars will be allocated for 500 recipients this year.
The Legacy Awards Scholarship will provide a $1000 scholarship annually for four years to 250 students nationally for the children or grandchildren of Elks that have been members in good standing for at least two years. The applicants will be judged on the core values of the ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION which are: Knowledge, Charity, Community, and Integrity without consideration of financial need .Legacy Award applications are available online only. The applicants must take their SAT or ACT by Dec.31 and applications must be submitted online by Jan.8, 2010. Recent recipients locally were Pat McDermott in 2006 and Chris Bodle in 2007.
Emergency Educational Grants are also available to provide financial assistance to children, from families where an Elk parent is deceased or totally disabled, who wish to obtain or further their college education. Financial need must be demonstrated for this renewable one year grant which can total up to $4000.00 per year. These applications are due Dec. 31 and may be obtained from Duane Berry by calling 814-765-9804 or Dennis Webster at 814 – 765 – 1291.
Locally the Clearfield Elks will provide information for applying for their annual Nurses Scholarship Program early in 2010.
