CLEARFIELD – “This is better than a Polish wedding”, said Eddie Stoyek of Curwensville as he and his wife, Rose, enjoyed the music and ethnic food at the annual Summer Celebration held on Aug. 20 at Lawrence Hall. Over 230 individuals attended this annual event.
Co-sponsored by Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc, its Centers for Active Living, and Colonial Courtyard of Clearfield, the Summer Celebration Polka Fest offered older adults of Clearfield County games, dancing, door prizes and a lunch that included stuffed cabbage, noodles and cabbage, pirogies, chicken, vegetables, drinks, and dessert. The meal was catered by Catering and Cakes by Cindy and Express Cafe. Music was provided by The Vagabonds, a local five-piece band, who with their lively variety of polka and popular music kept the dance floor filled.
The staff of Colonial Courtyard hosted games with prizes and gifts during the celebration. Having fun and enjoying the company was easy for everyone and the smiles and laughter were contagious.
The staff of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging and Colonial Court yard are already preparing for next year’s celebration. It takes a lot of organization including selecting the theme, but staff agrees that it is definitely worth the effort. Everyone enjoyed the event. Just ask first-time attendee, John Skraba of DuBois, who was serenaded by everyone with “Happy Birthday” as he celebrated his 90th birthday.
Programs and services of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Inc. are funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, Mature Resources Foundation, and local and client contributions.
