PHILIPSBURG – With school starting soon the state police in Philipsburg would like to remind motorists to be careful.
Motorists are reminded of the following:
-Watch out for children on bicycles or walking.
-Drive at the posted speed limit or slower where hazards dictate.
-Clear the vehicle’s windshield of any obstructions that will impede the driver’s view of the highway and berm.
-Do not hang objects from the rearview mirror that will impair the driver’s view or distract the driver.
-Do not operate a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or pre scri ption medication that may impair the driver’s judgment, vision or reflexes.
-Stop at least 10 feet prior to any school bus when its red lights flash. The fine for failing to stop for red flashing lights is $250 plus court costs, five points on your license and a 60 day suspension of your driver’s license.
-Remember the speed limit through a school zone is 15 MPH when the amber lights are flashing and or signs are posted.
Using these precautions as well as common sense will greatly reduce vehicle accidents and tragedies along the commonwealth’s highways.
