CLEARFIELD – On Monday night, the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors filled two assistant principal vacancies at a special meeting.
R. Lynn Hummel Jr. was named the acting assistant high school principal, while Andrew J. Brickley was appointed the acting assistant middle school principal.
Dave Glass, board vice president, said both were unanimously agreed upon by the board.
“We wanted to hire the very best,” he said.
Superintendent Richard C. Makin echoed the same thoughts, saying both were highly recommended.
Hummel, a graduate of the Clearfield Area High School, earned his Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology in addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, according to Kristie Young, human resource coordinator.
She said that after earning his principal certification, he continued his education and is currently working toward his Doctorate of Education degree. She said that he has been employed by the Mifflin-Juniata Career & Technology Center as an Instructional Technology Specialist since 2003.
“He caught our eye,” said Makin. He said that the district was extremely excited about Hummel’s extensive background in technology.
Young stated that Brickley, also a graduate of the Clearfield Area High School, holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Technology Education.
She said that he has been teaching Technology Education in the West Branch Area School District since 2001. She also noted that he has also served in the role of Interim Principal at West Branch.
According to a previous GantDaily.com article, in a special meeting last month, the board appointed Kevin Wallace, former high school vice principal, to acting principal of the school due to the retirement of John Law, who previously served in the position. They also voted and approved for Fred Redden to act as the middle school principal.
In June, the board voted and approved for James Quick, Jr. to remain as principal of the Clearfield Elementary School.
Quick had previously served on an interim basis in the position since mid-December due to the resignation of the school’s former Principal Anne Herzing. He accepted the position at the conclusion of the district’s “in-house” personnel search.
Quick recently completed his 15th year with the district. He said that he taught for 13 years before stepping into an administrative role for the past two. He was an assistant principal at the Clearfield Middle School prior to switching positions.
Redden filled Quick’s vacated middle school assistant principal position at the end of last year. He had been a technology education teacher at both the middle and high schools.
Redden, however, has now stepped into the position left by Tim Meckey, former middle school principal. Meckey had approximately 30 years in education and retired at the end of June.
