LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – A 2007 Freightliner sustained moderate damage after striking a black bear at 10 p.m. Saturday night along Interstate 80 at mile marker 115 in Lawrence Township, Clearfield County, the Clearfield State Police reported.
According to the police report, Thomas Ghaster, 72 of Swanton, OH, was traveling west, when the bear entered the roadway from the south side and directly in front of the freightliner. Police indicated that the bear was killed as a result.
Police stated that the freightliner continued traveling for two miles after impact until radiator damage caused it to stop. Ghaster was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. No injuries were reported.
