CLEARFIELD – PennDOT continues work on its US Route 322, Centre County bridge preservation project. PennDOT reminds area motorists that sections of US Route 322 are part of designated “Bicycle PA” routes and that it is important to “Share the Road” with bicyclists. The project is financed with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Spartan Contracting, Inc. of Stillwater is the prime contractor on the $829,000 project that will help preserve three bridges on US Route 322. Crews are working on two bridges over state Route 3010 at the Oak Hall interchange and one bridge over SR 45, near the end of the bypass.
The work requires containment of the bridges. The containment is being done one side at a time, allowing traffic (including bicycles) to move around the work zone in the other lane. Drivers need to be alert for lane restrictions, signage, slowed traffic and bicycle riders. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2009. All work is weather dependent.
The project is part of PennDOT’s more than $66 million investment of federal economic recovery funds being spent on 14 transportation projects across the nine counties of District 2.
