DuBois – After winning two games in the consolation bracket to reach the Jefferson County Legion League Playoff Finals, the Clearfield Chiefs ran into a buzzsaw named Dante DeSantis.
DuBois starting pitcher DeSantis threw a four-hitter, didn’t allow an earned run, had four hits, and drove in four runs to end the Chiefs’ season.
Clearfield never really threatened until Justyn Knepp led off the sixth inning with a double, and eventually scored, but DuBois had the game well in hand at 8-1 already.
DuBois tacked on three runs, on a bases clearing triple by DeSantis, in the eighth inning to set the final at 11-1 and end the game by the 10-run Mercy rule.
With the win, Coach Tom Hibbert’s squad will head to the Region 7 tournament in State College.
With the loss, Coach Sid Lansberry’s squad ends their season with a 16-16 record overall and a 13-9 record in the league.
Despite the season being over, Coach Lansberry reflected positively on his team, “We’re disappointed with the loss, but when we look back on the season it’s satisfying to reach the finals, considering we had some key injuries and a relatively young team.”
As always, Coach Lansberry was already looking to the next season by adding, “ We will have a lot of returning players, and we will be hosting the Region 7 tournament, which means we will be in it.”
Coach Lansberry also thanked his assistant coaches Tom Danver and Ed Yeager for doing a great job this year.
