Punxsutawney — With the season on the line, Coach Sid Lansberry\’s Cearfield Legion squad (16-15) starting hitting early and never stopped. In blasting league runner-up Punxsutawney 18-8, the Chiefs advance to the finals against regular season champion DuBois (17-3).
The Chiefs will travel to Showers Field on Tuesday night for a 5:30 pm start. They will need to beat DuBois twice this week to claim the league crown and advance to the Region 7 tournament.
Clearfield had offensive stars throughout the lineup as four players had at least three hits, four players had three or more RBIs, and three playerss slugged extra-base hits.
In pitching the first five innings, Chad Zurat picked up the win with three effecive reliefs innings provided by Corey Bookhamer.
The Chiefs never trailed in the game, but at the end of five full innings, they held a slim 8-7 advantage. Four and five run salvos in the seventh and eighth innings sealed Punxsutawney\’s fate.
