CLEARFIELD – On Thursday night the Clearfield Borough personnel committee made a recommendation to council to continue with one of their employees.
Fred Wisor said that Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack recently took, and failed, his Building Code Official Certification test. Wisor indicated that the majority of those who took the exam failed, and that Mack missed passing by only a few questions.
In May borough resident Joe Kane called out borough council over their hiring of Mack. Kane pointed out that council, in their advertisement for the position, council required that whoever was hired for the position obtain their BCO by April 9. Mack stated later in that meeting that a BCO is only required for construction permitting. He said it is not needed for zoning permits or to uphold codes.
Wisor said Thursday night that Mack has spent approximately $1,000 of his own money toward the test.
Wisor said that he’s talked to people around town who have said Mack is doing a good job. Wisor said that council should stick with Mack and give him time to pass the test.
“I feel we should continue with him,” said Wisor. “I have faith in him.”
