ST. MARYS – A fire caused an estimated $1 million in damage to a St. Marys man’s carpentry shop and storage building Friday afternoon. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is ongoing, the Ridgway State Police reported.
Police indicated that Michael G. McMackin, 56 of St. Marys, owned the three-story, wood frame building on Dusty Hollow Road. Police said that numerous vehicles, machines, tools and building materials were lost as a result of the fire.
McMackin was transported to Elk Regional Health Center for treatment of first and second degree burns on both arms. He sustained the burns while attempting to remove items from the building. Three firefighters were also treated for minor injuries, according to the police report.
The Crystal Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Johnsonburg Fire Department, Fox Township Fire Department and the St. Marys Area Ambulance Service.
